Salvation Mountain

This was one of the most interesting places we visited, This man, Leonard Knight, has worked on this since 1984, he says he "found God, and it was life changing," in 1967, then moved here to Niland, Cal. and started building Salvation Mountain because he" loved God and loved people"  So lets do some sight seeing whiles we are here!
All the products used to build here are donated.......  Everything you see is painted with scriptures or flowers, or.......
Above is a picture taken we think was sorta his blueprint, below is the coolest little scooter, every inch covered, amazing!
Here you see some of the cans of paint and other products used to build and paint, the dark spot you see is the way into the mountain, and look at the lovely flower garden below, amazing, all done by Leonard.
Lets go inside and look around, whole telephone poles and huge tree limbs help support it. below is a really good picture of the rivers and sorta shows the size.
This is evidently what he lived in most of the time he was working on the mountain in his younger days, what a work of art!
Even the machine with a bucket was covered! WOW
This is the back of his little 'Bungalow',  pretty classy I would say!  And look where it came from!
We walked up the backside of the mountain and this is what we saw.................just like bears we had to see the other side of the mountain! ha ha  This mountain is 3 storys high and as long as a football field.  It is made of hay bales, clay, tree limbs, telephone poles and lotz and lotz of paint!!
Sweet William posed for me in front of the sign, and below is the inward structure, words cannot describe!
Top side again,  this took perseverance and patience, that's for sure!  Just look at the water, almost looks like a real lake, bet he wished it was when it got  over 100* there in the summer!
He also reminded us of the fires of Hell, along with all the beauty.

The inside was just as amazing, the man won all kinds of trophies.....Below is an example.
The next few pictures are of the inside, some looking out, others just of what is in there.

This is a picture of Leonard Knight in his younger days, it is said that he painted sometimes 20 hours a day.
If, once again you get out your magnifying glasses, you will be able to read his whole story.  I loved the cat in the picture below.....
These were some of the friends that helped him at the beginning.

Taken at night, it was an awe inspiring picture, and below is quite a sculpture, is it not?

There is Sweet William, standing on the 'River of Life', if you drink of this water you will never thirst again.
Where the boat came in is anybodies guess. but the whole thing was amazing to see and if you are ever in Niland, Calif., go visit Salvation Mt.  You will be so struck by the sheer determination, I promise.  Mr. Knight was taken to the hospital  and we don't know if he will  be able to go back to his beloved Mt.,after all, He is 80!
This was an awesome experience, and we thank Bob & Cindy McAleer for leading us here!
I know I am delinquent in doing the blogs, but some days I just can't seem to sit down in front of this machine.  It takes at least 2 hours to put one of these together, so please forgive me if I don't get to them right away.  I am out here having fun, and will honestly try to do better, OK???  Sorry Maria, thanks for looking on a regular basis!  And with that I will say, "Good night" God Bless, Hugs & Prayers, Arlette & Bill too and the Sassy.
