We headed out the next morning, lunches packed, stocked with water, cameras, and Sassy, and came upon a herd of horses, this one was so curious, he headed for the car, so Bill got out, walked carefully over to it and rubbed its nose!! Good way to start the day I'd say!
This is 'Dancing Rock', we walked up into it and the acoustics were amazing! The pioneers had to have some entertainment, so they came here for some dancing and fiddle playing. There is a sign below this next picture,it is kinda small writing, but tells all about it.
Liked this picture, that is Bob & Cindy Mc. in their jeep, following us.
Get out your magnifying glass, here is that sign!!
Here is the road we followed for 56 miles to see.................
This place, it was quite a ways on farther from this sign.
Thar she blows, can you imagine???? The lake wasn't there at the time, but it was very deep and rocky, it also had rocks over top, but some miners used explosives and now there is no top. But...........it is still deep, narrow, dangerous, and totally awesome. I walked to the top of the left side and looked down, Bill looked like a little boy down in the hole, and he only went a little ways.
Leave it to me, didn't get the whole date, it was either 1891 or 1894, must have been a miner!
Here is another picture of the crevice, amazing that they all got down safely and then had to cross the Colorado river!
This sweet horse was just nickering at us, wanting so badly to be out with the other horses.
A picture of a beautiful country!!
Here is what the other horse was nickering about! These fellas were out finding cattle and he wanted to go! No one likes being left behind!!!!
We saw this camp, and the way it was set up, thought perhaps there was an archeology dig going on, waay cool, someone said there were Big Critter Bones found somewhere in this general area!
Stood and watched these 2 for quite a while, they were spooning very seriously. Notice the fellas chin, and his body was all puffed up to show the little lady that he was "her kind of man"! It is spring ya know! ha ha
Another picture of the rock formations in this area. It doesn't look very high, but it was a very deep canyon.
Thought this was so pretty, guess it was a weed, but it was purple, and some of my favorite people love purple. Pretty classy weed if ya ask me!
Some of these rocks looked like they were just waiting to fall, so Sweet William decided to try and help them a bit, weakling that he was, he couldn't budge it!!!
There were so many rock formations like this one, each one was different and amazing to me!
This one even had plants growing out of the rock, go figure!
Looks like playdough, it was quite pretty!
On the way back from the 'Hole in the Rock' we stopped at this................
Amazing shapes and colors, they looked like little dwarfs!
They were called hoodoos, still have your magnifying glass out??
Bill climbed up to the bottom of them and struck a pose, Awwwwwww.... my Hero!
This was the end of our time near Escalante, so now we head for Moab, UT. Hitch your wagons, get stocked up, and come on along!! See ya next time, Hugs, Arlette & Bill too, and the Sassy
