Here we were in beautiful downtown Protem, Mo., and we decided to save ourselves 100miles and take the ferry across the river. We went over in the car before hand, talked to the Ferry workers who assured us that they take 18wheelers across, not to worry, just come a little early so as not to hold up traffic................. Uh Huh!! Here you see Sweet William , a little nervous, but game to go when the ferry gets back.
Here is Whody, ready to take that ole ferry on! As you can see, we are the only ones in line.....SO FAR.
Heading down to the ferry, everyone is sooo nonchalant as Whody slowly descends, by now I am almost hyperventilating, "that's my HOME" shouts I, "don't let her sink, Please"
Next thing I hear a "CRUNCH" and poor Whody is stuck on the ramp going onto the ferry, no one was worried about that, just the little incline that was the actual ferry, oh no, what to do now????
But.... not to worry, the young man, Neil, kept saying, don't ya'll worry ma'm, it'll be fahn, we'll git ya'll on and over the lake, honest. By then quite a crowd had gathered to watch, everyone getting out of their rigs & off their bikes to stand and look or take pictures, no one seemed to be in a hurry, most said this wasn't unusual, and just stood and watched. Well, in about an hour, those sweet ferry fellas, moved the ferry dock enough to free Whody to go forward, Bill said he was gonna back up,but couldn't, so here we goooooo.......
YeeHaw, thar she blows, up goes a cheer from the crowd, whistles and horns, it was like a big old party. Next thing I know Neil is saying to me, git yer car ma'm, git 'er on here too, so now we are off!
Here is the car, right behind Whody and we are chuggin' along like gang busters, just like Neil said!
When we reached the other side, the ferry guys got a big back hoe, and moved the dock around, and Bill took off like a Bat out for blood on a moon less night!!! He was so glad to be over there, that we stopped and emptied our holding tank, naw, all this happened after we had been in it a week, not on the ferry, honest! haha!
We then pulled into the Corp of Engineer Park and spent 4 days. Whew, glad that was over, but felt so grateful to the ferry staff, we plugged in and I baked them a Lazy Daisy Oatmeal cake, it was the least I could do! What a great bunch of folks in Arkansas, only one lady got bent out of shape because she had to wait, she was driving an old car and all the other cars got across before her, what she didn't know was that they were all waiting for her on the other side and watching the show just like all the rest! I guess one unhappy person isn't bad, folks were lined up on both sides, but before I took the cake down, they were all back on schedule and no~one was in line. Good work boys!!!!! A good time was had by all!
Well folks, we do have fun and there is never a dull moment in our journey! We love what we are doing and look forward to each and every challenge! Right now we are headed for Pharr, TX., should be there by tomorrow. Will try to get another blog out, showing you more, so hang in there, come back when you can, Love, hugs and prays to ya all, Arlette & Bill too, and the Sassy
