Hi, here we are in Sturgis, SD. No, we aren't on a Harley, just IN a Suzuki, they have bikes too ya know!(Suzuki) My first recollection of a bike was when my Uncle Harry took me on a ride when I was very young, I was you know! I remember it quite vividly because he said there was an Indian on a horse in his gas tank and it could go fast>>>>>>>>>> At the age of 6, whose to argue??And here is one to look at, I remember that my Uncles was black. This is a 1942 Cushman,(good year), kinda like the one Bill used to deliver papers way back when, not 1942 tho, he was only 1year old. The next picture is weird but fascinating, It looked like a part of a moose antler made into an Eagle. Original, for sure.Thought this was cool, and to show you that there are Harley Chapters all over even in foreign countries, even Iraq. This is how it started, it was originally started for racing motorcycles in 1938, the clubs name was the The Jackpine Gypsies because they loved to ride where ever the wind blew (Yeehaw) but always came back here to race. It was put aside during the war, but resumed after, in 1940. This area was pretty wild back then, my Mom lived in Deadwood and am sure she probably got to Sturgis at least once to see the races. Even had Clubs for women, caught me by surpriseThese are the VanBuren Sisters, they were some of the first women who rode motorcycles. They must have been amazing gals for that time, not many were brave enough to step out of the stereo type of women! This just made me laugh, good way to look at it I guess! And a little late comes the picture of the outside of the museum, OOPS!!!This is what the town looked like when we were there, but from August 9th to the 14th, bikes will be parked on the street, and double parked down the middle of the street. I'm told it goes from 6,000 to 445,000 in that week, whew, but am also told that it is a lot calmer than it use to be, most bikers are older now with families and it is getting to be more of a family affair.####YA RIGHT!!!!!Thought this was cool up on the side of the hill. You see a lot of these, 'specially in small towns. Next picture is of one of the many that are in this town, saw it advertised on the highway so took a picture for ya.This is the town park, bikers are prohibited in the park so that locals have a place when the town is crazy I guess, good planning! And below is a picture of the real Sturgis, kinda looks like any home town, doesn't it??Here we are headed back to Custer and Whody, South Dakota is sooo beautiful, we thoroughly enjoyed every minute! Until we meet again, Smiles, Hugs and Prayers, Arlette & Bill too, and the Sassy
