Nashville,Tn. #2 Ryman Auditorium

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, for your NOT listening pleasure, on the stage at the GRAND OLE OPRY, we present the KLEINS from Oregon! Don't we look cool????? For those who don't like or know much about country music, you may want to skip this blog.
Many years ago, about 1949, I heard about the famous Grand Ole Opry, it was a dream of my Daddy Chucks to someday play on the stage here, and although His dream didn't come true, Mine did. I got to actually stand on the stage and look out over the massive building, and it was awesome. To the left was our tour guide "Casey" who was a Willie Nelson wanna be, don't think so, he did however take us on a pretty good tour.
The story about the Ryman is quite interesting, seems there was a traveling Evangelist named Sam Jones, and his preachin' was puttin' a stop to a lot of the Riverboat Activities. This didn't make Captain Thomas Ryman a happy man, so he made plans to go to one of these 'preachin' sessions and raise all kinds of ruckus....Well when he got there, he and his bunch sat in the back row, and no matter how hard they tried, they couldn't move, whiles listening ,Thomas became a saved man! Soon after, Thomas built the finest Church he could for Sam Jones to preach in, it took 7 yrs to build at the cost of $100,000, a lot for 1892, and was called the Union Gospel Tabernacle, it was later called the Ryman Auditorium in Honor of Captain Ryman.

This use to be the front, it is now the back, they have added on to the actual back of the building a huge welcome center.

This just tells about Captain Ryman.

This is Sam Jones, the traveling Evangelist.

Most country music fans know who these 2 are, Roy Acuff and Minnie Pearl.

The entrance into the back of the Ryman, I loved the architecture, use to be stained glass windows, were broken out by vandals and have been bricked in.

Standing up at the top of the stairs, looking down on the stage, however the floor you see isn't the old floor, it was taken up and a big circle was put in the new Opry that is used today. Didn't make it there, so didn't see it.

This is backstage, almost made me cry remembering my Dad wanting so badly to play here, he didn't want to be famous, just wanted to play on this stage!

This was the back alley that lead from the dressing rooms, many of the stars were discovered here because they would sit outside these stairways, knowing the stars and talent scouts would come out here. Charley Pride, the Everly Bros. Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, were all discovered here. It's called the 'Legends Alley'.

This was the last known picture to be taken of Patsy Cline before she entered the airplane that took her life.

Minnie Pearls first hat. She was hired to do her comedy act for a bunch of bankers, and stopped at a 2nd hand store because she was nervous and and thought it would help here settle down, the lady there gave her this hat. When she got up to perform, nobody laughed, but whiles jumping around on stage as she usually did, the price tag marked $1.98, fell from underneath and cracked the bankers up, this is how the price tag on all her hats came about!

Minnie Pearl and String Bean doing one of their comedy acts.

Hank Williams Sr., on stage at the Ryman.

Kitty Wells, Queen of Country Music, and although Kitty is still alive, Loretta Lynn is now the reigning Queen.

Leading up the stairs to the balcony in the Ryman, I love the old design.

Stain glass windows just like they were years ago. Very pretty from the stage!!!

Last but not least, If'n you've a mind to, head on down to Nashville, visit the Ryman Auditorium and make a recording, doesn't matter if you are good or bad, nobody hears it but you and the guy doing the recording!

This was a real high light for me, and I do hope you have enjoyed learning a little about where Country Music, real Country Music, got it's start, reaching all over the country, thanks to WSM radio!
