Campground at Tupelo,Miss., Corinth, Civil War

Isn't She cool, a redheaded woodpecker, I know it's a gal because the males have red under their chin as well as on top of their head. It was fun watching them go up a tree, they can march right on up!

The office of the campground we have been staying at whiles here in Tupelo. Nice, relaxing place, SUPER friendly people, laid back, we have enjoyed it, at least when we were home!

This guy told you where the laundry room was , He was sorta bashful and didn't talk much tho! This here feller, along with 5 other siblings owns this campground, and so take turns with the maintenance, but they hire a full time manager.

He is telling Bill how to find a tire shop, because when we came out to go to Corinth,Miss, our Suzuki had a very low tire, and it was the brand new one too! This feller said we could go to Wal~mart, but he recommended that we go to a local guy, and we thought that was our best offer.

, Here is the tire shop, they take only cash or personal check. We drove in, the man said "Hey,ya'll, wat kin a do fer ya". Within 15 minutes He had the tire off, fixed and ready to go back on, and He did it the old fashion way with a modern twist.
The feller asked us "war we was frum", when Bill told him Oregon, he said "wow, ya'll 'er a fur pice frum home, ain'tcha?" LOVE IT!!

Looked like a 60's shop, it was really busy, with folks comin' and goin' the whole time we were there.
And the price was just awful, it was a whole $12., can you believe that? We couldn't either, Amazin'!!

This is the culprit that wedged its way into our tire, On the side, lethal lookin' aint it!

Now we are on our way to Corinth,Miss, where a little known battle was fought. The union wanted to take over this little town because it was near the Tennessee River, and to secure the river would cut off Confederate supplies.

Here you have a brick house, and just look at the color of the trim, I LOVED IT, Bill wanted to know about my nationality, He just doesn't appreciate color like I do!! HAHA

This was on our way to Corinth.Miss. and is self explanatory,I think.

We went off the main road to find this sign, and were sorta disappointed because there was nothing around it. WELL.... we found out later, had we gone another mile or so, there is a park and a lot of stuff to look at. DUH.. One of those Senior moments we seem to be having more and more of. Like Sorghum, I knew it was molasses, just remembered that, didn't want any smart Alec comments from the peanut gallery!!

Saw this sign so took a little walk down a half mile or so, on the way we found another battle going on, well actually, they were going on about their business until Bill took a stick and sorta stirred 'em up, and wow, the battle began!!

This was before the big "stir", wore me out just lookin' at 'em!

It is really very humbling to stand where you KNOW men died for what they believe. How blessed we are that we don't live on a battlefield all the time like some countries!

Had to take this picture, That is what you call REBEL~AMERICAN Pride! Maybe I have started another politically correct term, I sure hope NOT, but every thing else in done that way, guess I'm an American~American, sounds gooood!!!!!!

We went into this amazing restaurant in Corinth, Miss., and our waitress was wearing this shirt. Boy is it the truth!!!! The restaurant was another Blue & White in Baker, some of you folks know what I am talking about.

This is just one view of the menu, check out the prices, amazing to say the least, and in the next picture down is the people who frequent this place, looks like small town America, The best places to be if you ask me!!

Families getting together, friends, a lot of men were there , and the waitresses knew just what they wanted, like the Inland in Baker City!!

Another look at the menu, and the food was amazing, there was a lot for the price, the sandwiches came with Fry's,potato salad, coleslaw or chips, you pick.

Bill and I got the special of the day, BBQ chicken, got to choose white or dark, and it came with 3 sides and a roll or "Fried" corn bread. I got coleslaw, mashed taters, and fried squash. (they fry everything down here and it is gooood! The price for this meal, $5.oo each, our drinks, 2 cokes, were $.75 each. Cost us just a little over $11. for a great meal, and that meant when we got home I didn't have to cook!! YAHOOOO!!

Almost forgot, Bill got Strawberry cake, not me, I was so full, but the cake was $.75. Don't see how they can do these prices, but who am I to question. We went back the next morning for breakfast, and it was just as good as lunch the day before!!

This is the Court House in Corinth., a super little town with very friendly people, everyone you passed said, "Howdy ya'll, how ya be?"

Couldn't quite figure out this fire plug, but thought it was interesting, and you know me, I just HAD to take the picture!

This was at the Museum in Corinth,Ms. It was a very well put together museum, this is a picture, as is the one below, as you go out a side door, each one of the blocks has parts of the Constitution written on it, quite impressive, and very pretty.

Isn't this pretty?

As you went in the front door you read this poster, I had no idea, sure wish I had paid attention in school!!

This was interesting and in a way a little un~nerving, because it depicted things lost or left on the battlefield when men died or were taken captive.

The soldiers carried these tin cups.

The loss of a hat, Confederate.

This blew my mind, Unfair competition??? Look at us now, NOW we have unfair competition and it isn't from Slaves! I always thought Northerners wanted to free the slaves. I have learned so much on this trip, and there is so much more to come!

Good picture of the Weapons used, each had a place for a bayonet. This was a one on one battle most of the time.

The next 2 pictures show how they constructed barricades to protect Corinth. The idea was really a super one and it took them a while to construct it, but as you can see in the picture below, it was quite a fortification for the town.

Isn't this interesting? Notice the cannon in the back-ground, and I hope you can read what little of the story I was able to get.

When you enter the museum grounds, these guys look you right in the eye! There were 4 of them aimed atcha!

This was after the war, so sad, there were many who had nowhere to go, they had lost everything but what they could carry. Read a diary of one lady whose husband never returned, she was left with twins and 9 other children and a horse. It said she was crying because she had no idea how she was going to feed all her children. What courage, today you would probably see the children all left behind to be put in the system.

These were 2 flags that were actually on the battlefields around here. Amazing that they even came through.

This one was quite elaborate at one time. If you look close, you can see who took the picture!

This was Brigadire General James Birdseye McPherson, a Union Officer who came up in the ranks quite fast, due to His accomplishments. He was head engineer for the Union, and built 367 miles of road in less than a month. This helped with the war against the Confederates.
This was his trunk along with the key to open it, I would have, but it was behind glass, RATZ!!
Well, once again I hope I have given you a little more info. about what it is like back here. Have another blog on the way, this one is all about the battlefield of Shiloh, Tennessee. I never realize what went on around here until I STOOD on the battlefields where these men fought and died, what an emotional feeling! Until next time, Love ya all, Arlette & Bill too, and the sad Sassy. (to hot, had to stay home!)
