The very next thing we saw was this pretty deer. It just rambled across the road without a care in the world!
If you are able to read this, it tells about the battle in this Peach Orchard, the Confederates finally broke into the Union line, but the next day the Union soldiers won this ground back.
This was a family owned home and peach orchard, after the battle ,the house was burned to the ground, and the family put up this make-shift cabin to get by. In the picture below you will notice how the chimney was made, very interesting and sorta pretty too. Also notice the covers on the windows, Indians or storms? don't know, and it didn't tell us.
The first time Bill and I were here we went in the wrong way , so the next day we went in right and I took this picture.
This is a picture of some Tennessee fighting volunteers, It wasn't known how many got to go back home. Also, a seldom known fact was how many women actually served, posing as men. It was known, but not documented.
This was an amazing find because it was found all in one piece and only needed cleaning up. They didn't know if the drummer had been killed, or just left his drum and ran for dear life!
Couldn't resist taking this little guys picture, His Daddy was one of the guys you will see later on. Notice the pup tents, they were used by some boy scouts that had hiked here from Corinth,Ms.
Here are they guys that did the demonstration. Would like to have put all my pictures showing each one doing the demo, but have to draw a line somewhere. They started with the the older weapons first, and at the end of the program all shot their weapons at the same time, sorta, the newer ones had long since finished before the older ones were even primed! It was really great!
This was quite pretty, all the graves that could be found around the area were dug up and put in this Cemetery, behind locked gates, because people were digging them up to get artifacts.
This is the Tennessee River, and the Cemetery sits on its banks.
Just one of a number of these, doubtful if the wife, mother, father, brother or sister ever knew what happened to them.
I do hope you can read this, it tells the story of the Battle that was fought here, and about the gun boats in the river. What a battle was fought here, who knew, surely not I, said the History challenged Yankee!
This was quite a sight to see, kind of a small Arlington Cemetery. We hope to see that someday soon as well.
There were also men from WWI buried here as well, the grave stones were more elaborate by then.
These signs had a lot to say, and I just couldn't resist putting them on here, read on down, there are 3 of them!
Really sad, but true.
This monument was raised to remember and Honor the Confederate soldiers and their Commanders. It stood 18ft tall, and was erected in 1905 by the Daughters of the Confederacy
Another walk back to where graves were discovered and removed to the National Cemetery. As I have said before, you kind of stand in awe of what happened on this battlefield so many years ago.
The park waas full of statues like this, with many states listed. We were amazed, there was Ohio, Minnesota, Indiana, Missouri, just to name a few. They came from all over to fight for their cause.
This is the United Methodist Church of Shiloh, located in the Park. The original Church built in 1851,was made of rough hewn logs, and was destroyed soon after the war. A new church was started in 1929, but because of funds wasn't finished until 1952.
A ratheer pretty marker paying tribute to the Crescent Regiment of Mississippi.
More Cannons, it was awe inspiring to say the least!
This was taken from the Park, it is the Tennessee River, and it was pouring down rain! Nobody seemed to mind, this is fishin' time!!
This copter was sitting there just as we entered Savannah, Tenn., it looked radical, so naturally I took its picture!
Welcome to Savannah, Tn., a town rich in History, like so many towns around this part of he country!
Went to this museum, quite interesting, but not outstanding.
This tells you a little about the pipe you will see below.
Can you believe this is a PIPE?? I guess it was quite a find, but it sure is ugly!

Chokes a person up, God Bless all our Vets!

Shiloh means 'House of Peace'.

This house sat right on the Tennessee River, a beautiful spot. They were renovating it, and it did need it, badly. I am sure you can probably read the marker to find out about it.
Would love to have visited this house, 'specially the back yard because it was right on the river!, Nope, not open to the public yet. Sniff!
Savannahs finest, no not Georga, but Tennessee!
This was near Savannah, Tennessee, it was so beautiful, the pictures just don't do it justice. How I wished you were all with us to see with your own eyes all the beauty we see!
There were jet-skis everywhere, and boats too. The water was so clear and really blue!
Headed home to Tupelo, this is what we saw, and before long it was pouring down rain. Felt like we were back in good old Milwaukie, Ore. again EXCEPT.... It doesn't cool off down here it just gets real muggy!
Isn't this just the coolest? Bill said it waas probably home made cause it had a Buick V6 in it. Cute!
I am finally caught up with the blog! YIPEE!! We head back down the Natchez Trace in the morning, so there will be more. Have learned a few tricks about my computer, so may be able to keep up better. I just wish I could put more pictues on, there is so much to see, but there is a limit and I think I've reached it....So, Hugs,Prayers and Smiles to all of you my friends, Arlette & Bill too, and the pouty Sassy (home alone, again)
