Well here I am again, this time I just thought I would tell you what Bill and I think about this "La--Weez-ee-ana! So far it has been the most interesting, with more history than I ever thought could be in one state. It is green, swampy, stormy, and you never know when that storm is coming, which makes it very unpredictable, but it is truly amazing!
Spent the day at the BatonRouge Museum, and how this state came to be is unbelievable. There are so many different types of people here, all with their different culture and belief, yet most meld together so well, and enjoy the differences in each other. Of course you will always find the ones who think they are always right, but for the most part this place is breathtaking! I love it because I was "raised up" believing that people were people, no color or ethnic was bad, there were just people. There was bad and good everywhere, and it really stands out here. Even Bill likes it here, people are funny, they tawk funny, they cain't unnerstan' us Yankees, but we laugh and work it out. We met a young man the other day here in the park, several of us were visiting, he said "ya'll tawk diff'rent, war ya'll frum?" We said Oregon, "Oregone, shoot, aw nevar ,met nobody frum Oregone afore, the rest of ya be quiet, I needs to tawk to theez folks, Oregone, WOW!! We get this a lot, people are so interested to think that we would come all that way just to see La-weez-ee-ana. Pretty cool, ya almost feel like a celebrity! WhooHoo, book me, book me, I'll entertain you with stories from Oregone any old time. Not that I know any, but for a few bucks I could make 'em up, right??
And the food here.....OH MY... Of course you know me and food. We went out for lunch the other day and on the menu was a dish called "Crawfish Etouffee" says me to the waiter, "WHAT is that" We were in a pretty nice place, but the waiters face showed absolute surprise, and he says, "WHERE are ya'll from, fo show ya ain't frum aroun he-are, cause evabody knos what Etouffe is"!! "Ya'll will love it, it is crawfish in a tomater rue wif rawce, an it is goood" He was sooo right, it was the best thing I've eaten in a looong time, and plan on doing it again before we leave here. More than once he said that I needed to try just plain seasoned bo-ald (boiled)crawfish befoe ah left. "You might thank this be yukky, but ya jist pull der liddle hades (heads) off 'n peal 'em 'n eat da liddle bahins, nufin' better nowhares". So I promised I would do just that, some night when Bill irritates me, which isn't often, I'll go RIP some poor defenseless liddle Crawfish head off! YUMMO!!! I am the ultimate tourist, cause I actually took a picture of the Etouffe. Weird huh?
I know that this isn't as interesting as some of the other blogs, I will do some pictures if I can, but wanted you folks to know WHY we decided to stay a whole month. We still have 3 or 4 things yet to see in BatonRougue, then on to NewOrleans and parts. We have really had the time of our lives, we have walked all over BatonRougue, been to the State Capital building.... on the Top floor, gone down inside a battleship, laughed, cried, yelled at each other, cause He wants to go one way and I think it's the other way, don't tell him I said this, but HE is usually right! HA. But fun, you bet, we shoulda done this YEARS ago!!
I love that you guys care enough to follow us on our journey, hope I never dissapoint YA'LL! Will try to put pictures on a new blog, If'n AH cain!
Love to all & Smiles, Arlette & Bill too, and the Sassy Girl
