Here are pictures from only 2 of the 3 things we saw on Tues. Am
surprised I got this many pictures on. We also went to see the USS KIDD, have more pictures, but is getting late, so will try to put on those tomorrow. Since then we have been to 2 more places, so have patience, and I will get them on for you! Ain't this fun? We have had such a ball doing all of this, and I took a lot more pictures than what you see, but have to stop somewhere, right? Love & Smiles to you all, Arlette & Bill, too, and Sad Sassy,(she's been alone for 3 days, sniff) This bell was in the Park in front of the Arsenal, and yep, you guessed it, Bill had to ring it! He was on his hands and knees, and when it rang it about blew his ears out, but here he come,
grinnin' like a Cheshire Cat!

The gate in the "brick & plaster"wall leading into the
Arsenal. Notice the rails built right into the brick to make the huge gate open easily.

This is one of the vents in the building, they were not vented straight, but on an angle so that a bullet could not go through into all the powder kegs. Pretty smart I'd say!

And THIS was the Essex, a Civil War ship.Scary looking to me!

One of 2 escape routes out of a Civil War arsenal. These windows were as deep as the walls, and that was 54" to keep the powder dry. ,and bullets out.
Here is the State Capitol. Built in the 1930's during the depression by the urging of then mayor, Huey P. Long. It was built on a 27acre tract and finished in only 14mo. at the cost of $5million dollars. A lot of money for depression times. It is amazingly beautiful inside and out! My picture went away, will try to put it on the side like last time, so sorry!!

The top part of the Capital Building.

Here are the cannons that guarded
Baton Rouge during the civil war

There you see a bridge going over the Mississippi, and the
USS Kidd that we visited earlier in the day. Looks pretty small from up here!

This was some of the gardens, in the shape of a big
stern wheeler, wheel.
This is the view from the top of the Capital Building. I will try to put several on, it was really breathtaking up there

The marble, of all different colors, and from all different countries was really pretty, but the fella in charge of this room showed us this fossil, in one of the walls. Said he didn't show this to everyone, an few knew it was even there! Cool, huh??

This is the "House of Representatives"for Louisiana. It was really beautiful, tons of marble, but pretty dark. They don't meet again until 2009, pretty cushy job, huh?
