The big old tree in between these to younguns, they figure to be about 3500yrs old, the oldest one in this area. these other 2 are just youngsters at about 2500yrs.

This Chest was found in the house, well used, but very intricate in design. LOVED IT!!

For all you guys, the walls made of mortise andCypress, put together with pegs so as to save the nails for the floor! Pretty cool!

This was the couch, notice the INTRICATE design, all the furniture was this way, and all was made of HORSE HAIR, can you believe that? These people were very wealthy, but didn't believe in squandering their money, Horse hair wore well, and they wanted things that lasted. What I wonder is what did it smell like if it got wet??? Ken didn't know, bummer, sure was purty stuff!
The floors and the beams in the ceilings are all made out of Cypress wood. The bugs don't like this wood, and because it is from old trees from the Bayou, it doesn't rot, or shrink and expand as much as other wood. I'm thinkin' of having some body armour made for myself, but doubt it would be very comfy, ideer tho!

This is a fairly good picture of the living room, it was in "summer" dress to protect the gold on the mantle, and the gold light fixture. It seems that some bugs have an acid in them that ruins precious metals. Who knew? Nasty little buggers!

This is Ken, our guide, he did a magnificent job. That is the parents bed, notice at the front, there is a heavy netting, it was necessary over all the beds to keep out the mosquitoes
, it was heavy and hot, but necessary, they's AWFUL down here! Above is the living room, note the wallpaper and the ceilings. There is a special board put up to hang pictures because the walls would crack if you nailed anything to them! Sounds like lathe and plaster, but it wasn't, it was just mortar.
The children were kept with their parents until the age of 2, ain't that when they get to be brats?, after that they are put with the other siblings. Not only rich parents, but smart ones too!! Very well made cradle.
