Out and about, #3

Started down the road past this mine and discovered we were low on fuel, and our brakes were really quacking, so we headed for Pahrump, bought new brake shoes and filled up with petrol.
Got back to camp and Bill put on new brake shoes, I saw a very colorful Volkswagen Bus, and we headed out for the Natural Bridge.
This was about a 2 mile hike, up on the way in and Hallelujah, down on the way back!

And here it is, the Natural bridge, it was really cool, don't know why they called it a bridge, you couldn't walk over it, just under it.  It was spectacular!
There were, as they called them, 'Candle wax drippings', but were actually made by water and the clay in the mountainside. They do look like candle wax, don't they?  Very striking.
When we saw this it reminded us of a water park slide, so Sweet William had to go see if he could 'slide' down the water chute!  No problem as you can see!  These were really smooth walled, like millions of gal of water had gone through them, awesome!
On the way back, I attempted to get a picture of 'Bad water' that showed from inside the canyon, not to bad, you can see the white salt anyway.
Here again, the flowers amazed me, growing out of rocks no less!!!  Bill, don't let Ruby see the next picture, OK?
As we headed back, we saw this poor guy, struggling to get off the road, no chance, he was kinda smushed in the middle.  He was a long one tho.
Now we are looking from the other side  toward Agueraberry point, into the Canyon, not nearly as impressive, but still pretty.
By this time it was getting a little warm, so we headed back to camp and walked across the street to the museum.
The 20 mule team was the most interesting to me, and how about this engine below. Check out those wheels, doesn't look quite like mule feet does it?
This was the motel back then, and it is in almost the same spot as it was then.
Quite nice accommodations according to this picture.  Leave it to me, I didn't take a picture of the new hotel, but it is Grand, the rooms start at $104., you have a pool and tennis courts, and a dining room that you have a dress code for. Nothin' but the best in Death Valley!!
This is a pack for your mule, old Jenny didn't mind when you loaded her down!
See, when I let my blogs get so far behind I get senile and forgetful, Yes, at one time they must have run trains, cause there is one in the Museum!!  sorry :*(
This was used to haul Borax out of the mine, you saw it above, only it had an engine attached.
And of course they had to have stagecoaches to get the ladies to Death Valley!
How about this for a road grader, no heavy mechanics here, just hitch 'em up and say giddy~up!
Well, I am so sorry that I lost my paper telling me what all this was, but it is all original to Death Valley.  Sorry Hoppy, I sure blew it this time, I'm only human. smile. Soooo......... Until next time take your brain pills, I forgot mine this time for sure!             Love, Prays and Smiles, Arlette & Bill  too and the Sassy
