Hello again, last one, then Scottys Castle, ya can't miss that! This here is a big old crater, that's a hole in the floor, and they call it the Ubehebe Crater, U~B~HE~B ,funny name, but us folks with funny names are sometimes fantastic, and this crater sure was!
However, as you can see, it was HOT, so we opted to go back to our campground and sit in the shade and see what we could see.
Thought this was a cool picture of Whody, but had to have a full view, so put the one below on, too!
As you can see, we are sorta backed into a canyon, there was a huge gulch right behind us, and it was lotz cooler than most places!
Here was our nearest neighbor, a young couple with 2 little girls. I remember tenting, but love the Whody, to old to sleep on the ground! Bill says "Amen".
If you look close you will see a big eared rabbit, not only were his ears big, so was he. Bill spotted him in the gulch, followed him with my camera and got a fabulous picture, didn't even use the telescopic lens.
Look close and you can see him standing up to eat the tender tops of the sagebrush. He ate for over an hour, and we sat in the shade and watched! Good entertainment in my book!
Next morning we left the campground, parked Whody all alone in a pull off area, and headed for the little town of Ryolite.
Yep, it is in Nevada.
Came to a little museum, not open, looked in the little box where it said 'information', nuthin' there, and saw this fella, makes ya take a big gulp, wonderin' what it is and if it can really ride that bike with no legs!!!
Then we spotted these, and..........
It is suppose to depict the last supper, sorry folks but there were REAL people there, not these! This fella was said to be so happy that they let him have free will in his art, well.......................
This was cool............
He had all kinds of glass, money, bottle caps, a childs tennis shoe, you name it, it was there. Sweet William and the Sassy wanted their picture taken, so I took it, aren't they cute??
When I saw this I decided the guy had smoked a little to much wacky tobaccy, but found out it actually came off of a ship, but had lost its head, WHEW, it was quite a scene, lotz of other 'stuff' I wouldn't put on.
As we traveled down the road, There was another awesome rig, this one was from Germany, good, solid and dependable, an a little to small for us! ha ha
Ryolite is a ghost town, this is the old mercantile, looks small in comparison to the modern day super markets, huh?
Then we came to the bottle house, built by Tom Kelly in 1906. Every 7th bottle was different, and it was a residence for a while, then a curio shop, but is now a mess inside, cute outside tho!
There, isn't that awesome? I didn't see any light from outside inside when I looked, just plain walls, but that would have been awesome to have the glass shining through!!
He also made a whole village of bottles to raffle off for something, but never found out what.An guess he never did it, they are still there! They were really cute, even had a Chinese pagoda and a church!
Below is a picture of what was left of this beautiful bank, sad when vandals take over, then you add the elements as well...............
The 2 holes on the left side, inside, was the vault, musta had a lotta gold in them thar days!!!!
And at one time the Railroad also went through this town, All Aboooooard!!!!
And here is the beautiful Train Station to prove it.The green sign on the front also said 'Casino', and I am told that a couple of the little houses close by were brothels. What history there is here, am sure we don't know the half of it!!!
There was no fancy sign, just this one that showed the school, and it looked to be a pretty large one too.
Glad to see that, kids need their education.
After our visit to Ryolite we headed for Beatty, Nv. to have a bite of lunch and spotted this bus, really different, huh? That's what makes them so much fun!
On the way back I spied this teddy bear cactus, just growing in the rock, thought it was cute, but don't touch it, OUCH!!
Saw another mine, lotz of those around,
And of course the flowers, love them! Most are so delicate and beautiful in this hot place, amazing!
This was quite a hole in the wall, thought it was cool so put it on for all to see. Looked like a whales mouth! Well, Bill says I have a wild imagination!
And here we are, almost back to Whody, there was a jeep broken down behind her with NO water, so we gave them all a bottle of cold water, asked if they needed help, they didn't, and went our way!
Well, I have 2 more blogs, and I will be caught up to NOW, how glad I am. My eyeballs are sore from sitting at this computer, and there is still a LOT to see and do. So, until next time, don't let your town become a ghost town, keep smilin', Love, Hugs & of course Prayers to all, Arlette & Bill too, and the Sassy
