Baker City Court House Clock tower, What a kick!!!!!

Well, here we are in the big metropolis of Milwaukie, and how are we greeted? RAIN, what a bummer.  We did however have a wonderful time with John & Sarah, Bill's brother and sister~in~law.  Always fun to be with them.
Now onward and upward, whiles in Baker City, our daughter Donna invited us to the courthouse to see the recently renovated clock tower. All we can say is WOW!!  The top picture is the original hands that came off of the old clock. Here is a sign that tells a little about it. Our guide, Vince was very thorough explaining things to us.  The first thing was to wade through the pigeon dung, get it cleaned up and get into the clock itself. (well, not us, volunteers)  How thankful they were that the workings of the clock itself had been closed in, can you imagine  the end results if it hadn't been? Shudder.....
Isn't the face magnificent, that is the only word that I think describes it.They started the renovation in 2008, and finally got it back together in 2009.  What a job, the pigeon stuff was quite a chore to clean up I'm sure. These are what makes the clock chime, it was really great to be able to stand right there whiles it struck 12 times.  Below Vince showing  it to us.  I believe if you call, they will arrange for you to see it. Hope I'm not wrong.  It is so impressive, I would have love to see it go again, but didn't want to stand up there another hour, and Vince had to get back to work.Below are  Names that were on the wall, one 1941, one 1913, what a treat! This is the tool used to wind the old clock, it took quite a while each day to do so, probably longer to wade through the mess, HAHA.  As you can see,( somehow I lost one of the pictures, )sorry, that the walls were all cleaned and painted, thanks to volunteers, and everything is quite spiffy now.  This is a picture overlooking Baker City from the clock tower, pretty impressive, huh? Here are some really pretty windows that were in one part of the Courthouse and were moved into a courtroom. Nice! And there she blows, really really pretty, don't ya think? And here is the impressive Courthouse itself, it was one of the things we loved when we first moved to Baker.  It is well kept up, and of course nice folks work there, after all our daughter Donna is one of them! Right?? Thought you would all agree!! HAHA
And yep, don't ask me how I do this, but here is the picture I thought I had lost, see how clean and painted it is now ?And you can see the mechanism that now winds the clock, no more hand winding, hooray for modern fixin's, well some anyway.  It is great that we still have things like this around to see and enjoy.  If any young folks read my blog, listen up, old is good, it shows us how things were done and done right many years ago, how many things you buy today will still be around 100 years from now. Think about it, OK?
I so enjoyed my visit with my daughter and friends that had time to visit whiles we were there.  We were going to Nova Scotia but plans do change and it saddened us to have to change them, Lord willing we will go next year so our Son~in~laws father can see our "big bus".
Until next time: Hugs, prayers, and all the very best to you out there, Arlette & Bill too, and the Sassy  PS. to all my Milwaukie gals, I will try to see most of you before I go, well a few anyway.
