Now I ask you, is this not a pretty sunset? The Florida Keys do not have exclusive rights, this is just outside of Rapid City, SD. in our front yard no less. The picture below is the Railroad tunnel just down from the camp we are staying in, wanted to get a picture of a train coming out of it, but have only seen 2 trains since we been here, both going the other way, phooey! Here is the car that Bill has always liked, not me, the Merc., and the other is a really rare Cadillac, it is warm here, so the car folks are out in droves, cool cars tho.Deadwood, so different than when I visited back in '83, it is now a pure tourist, gambling, drinking place, just like in the '40's. Well, don't think it was a tourist trap back then, but all the other applied. They kept this old Texaco, but each of the garages is a small business, selling "souvenirs". go figure! We were parked by this sign, but were to far away at the time of the gunfight, saw the shooters and they looked Mean!! Ya don't see a sign like that every day of the week. The picture below is where my Mom use to deal blackjack back in the '40's. When I was back there in the '80's my Uncle Norman (birth dads brother) pointed it out for me. It is also my brother Allens birth place. As usual, Bill and I went nosing around on some back roads and found a great picture of Deadwood from far up in the hills, very quaint little village, from here anyway! The flower you see is a wild rose, my Granny Smith loved these, and boy do they smell good! They grow in abundance around parts of South Dakota.Whiles on the back roads, we saw a lot of these garages, some folks still use them for cars, but most use them for storage, they are pretty small. Now we are in the town of Lead where there was a huge Gold mine for years, but it is now closed, my Uncle Norman retired from the mine in the '80's. Here you see the houses built on the hills, just like in Deadwood, they put them wherever they could. Amazing! We are sitting at the Mining Museum, lots of interesting stuff, they have a whole fake mine in the basement, I would NOT like to be a minor! I forgot one picture so put it on the bottom, will comment later!!Did you know that this was filmed in South Dakota, I didn't, still don't remember the spot that they pointed out! Here we walked in about half a mile and what a pretty falls. Folks were fishing, but didn't see any fish on the line or in their baskets! Really pretty tho., good walk. This is one of the old power plants they used to run the mine. It is in excellent condition, but no longer in service. And here is one of the many reasons I couldn't be a minor, when ya hadda go, ya sat down, and turned out the light, that would make me not be able to go I would be so scared, down many stories in the ground, trying to answer the call of nature in the DARK...........I think NOT!! But it was so interesting to learn how it was done, the mine that is, (chuckle) when it all started and when it all ended. What a beautiful place South Dakota is, I'm glad I was born here, but Oregon will always be my home, and Bills too! Well, that's all for now folks, I had a blog set up from Fort Pierre, it got mixed up, I did another one and deleted the good one, daaaa..... so will try the pictures again and maybe get it right. So see ya all down the road a bit! Hugs, smiles & prayers, Arlette & Bill too, and the SassyPoor guy, looks humiliated!!!!!
