This is one of the older buildings in Baker, the Basche Sage Hardware building, when we moved here in 1976, it was really a hardware store, now it is another one of those ever present 'Mini Malls', how things change!
This is the City Hall where they told us it would cost us at least $1000 to get water hooked up to our little piece of property, oh well, maybe next year, then it will be $2000, ya think??
Of all the buildings in Baker, Bill & I love this one the most. It is the Baker Hotel, when we first came here it was a busy place with a restaurant & flower shop on the main floor and apartments above, it was bought, cleaned up, but seems to be empty. It is really a beautiful building, anyone wanna loan me a million or so? Would love to buy it!
This is the beautiful Geiser Grand, I worked here many years ago in a small restaurant. It has since been renovated, and is quite beautiful inside and has a great restaurant, much better than when I worked there! You can rent the tower rooms starting from $179~$249 per night, I'll rent Whody for a LOT less!!!!
An awesome building, this would be the Baker County Court House where my cute little 10year old daughter us to go and turn cartwheels as often as she could, even got her picture on the front page of the Democrat herald, she now works in the Assessors office of this same building, haven't seen her do any cartwheel lately though!! Love ya Donna!
Here is the first home we lived in when we moved here, Bills Dad built beautiful cabinets in the kitchen, and when we sold it the gal painted them that UGLY 80's green, I cried!! It looks pretty good outside though.
Retired? Who, Me?? What makes you think that?? Looks pretty laid back doesn't He?
Here is our next adventure, if someone will grubstake us that is! Loved this sign, and it IS for sale, up near Sumpter
This is the vault that the sign above talked about. That is my kind of bank, at least if my money had been in the vault!
Everywhere we go there are buses, this old feller looked like he had seen better days, kinda sad 'cause he looked like he had been well used at one time!
Loved this guy, He was carved, then either burnt or tarred, he was a gold miner, pretty cool, somebody was really clever!
This I took just for you Carol F., it must have been for the miner above, 'cause it was in his yard!
Here be the Sumpter Dredge. It is being repaired and they now allow people to go through it.
Philips Lake is between Baker and Sumpter, and is quite pretty! If you look at the point, we use to live behind it on a little piece of land, I even had some pretty red chickens, ya, me!
And this is what happens if you don't lock the refrigerator and freezer when you take off. The doors fly open, and even though you THINK you have looked and made sure everything is where it should be, you open the freezer to get out dinner, and can't figure out what all the dark looking stuff is~~~~~ WA~LA, frozen soda, really cool to see, not so cool to clean up. We just laughed, sometimes life is like that, right?
Well folks, we are at a NW Bus Nuts rally in Moses Lake Washington, and yes, I do plan on putting on some pictures, then back to Baker for Drs. Appts. Hope this catches you up a little! Smiles, Hugs& Prayers. Arlette & Bill too, and the Happy Sassy. She doesn't have to wear her harness in Baker!
