Some pictures from Fort Davis

Hi from Pharr!! Have put some pictures on of Fort Davis, and there are more, we also went to the McDonald Observatory, but keep in mind I am just doing them random, and putting on as much as this computer will put on, so do enjoy! This is our Sassy, learning to be a good traveler. She is use to sitting in my lap, but we are trying to teach her that she can be more comfortable on her bed between our seats. She's doing it, but NOT liking it! Poor Baby!
There were rows of houses like this, but this happened to be the "Commanding Officers "house, one of the few with things in it. That's tomorrow night!

I loved this house and the background of a magnificent rocky ledge behind it. It was used to house Jr. Officers, and was built in the 1880's.

We looked through all the old buildings, and in what was left of the hospital sat this fellow. They must have wanted to please everyone, cause his face was black, but his hands are white, cracked us up!

This was the only lighting in the quarters of the Buffalo soldiers, not to bright!

Now gals, this is our department! Single gals were recruited to do laundry, cooking, sewing, ironing, all the fun stuff, but they didn't last long, cause they really came out to bag a husband!! Go get 'em gals!
Here is the Gatling gun, really awesome for the times.

He ask which of these beds was the man in prison, and which one was the man in the hospital? Of course the one with the mattress is in the hospital, they have beds with mattresses there, but not so in prison. He was a really good guide.

Here is the reason why, they would begin to gamble, and soon be mad at each other. Smart to lock up the firearms I'd say!! OOPS, got the pictures backward! leave it to me to do that!

This fella was showing these folks(boy Scout troop) how to stand at attention and march like they did at Fort Davis back then. Then he asked them WHY they locked up the guns.

Now this is what I call "easy livin'" it is what the soldiers slept in when out in the field. Fort Davis had a regiment of "Buffalo Soldiers", these were black men who joined so their families could get the $13 a month.

This is the Dr. Kit used at Fort Davis, the most important piece was the saw, it was used to cut off arms or legs that had been shot up and could not be saved, Whoo Hoo, anybody wanta be the Doc.?
Thanks again for being my guest and getting to see a little of Fort Davis, it was very enlightening to us, we spent several hours there, just looking over the ruins. We were told there were never any walls, and it was never attacked because the Indians were to afraid of the black soldiers, and there were several thousand men there also. 'Fraidy cats, or just maybe they were really SMART! Enough for tonight.
Love, Smiles and Prayers, Don't do anything I would or you'll end up in the Guard House where it is hot, hot, hot! Arlette & Bill & the pouting Sassy Girl
