We arrived here this morning, and the first thing we saw was a '49 ford PU, and a '49 ford Car, pretty cool, I knew Bill would love it here. As we traveled on around the town we found amazing things. The pictures, as usual are sorta mixed, but will try to explain each as best as I can. The motor home was actually being lived in, and I took it because "MAN AH'M GONA STAY COOL" the air conditioner is huge for so small an area. Bet they froze their fingers off!! Although it is pretty warm here, it was 93* today, WHEW!!!
The next few pictures and the one above is of a really cool Bed and Breakfast called "EVE'S GARDEN" and it was way more than cool! All the rooms were made of recyled paper and cement, and it was insulated to R30. It was so different, we were driving by really slow and this lady invited us to look around. Of course I loved the colors, and when we drove by the doorway, I just HAD to find out more! Between the reg. house and the rooms, that were extremely cool, by the way, they had a beautiful garden, flowers and some of the veggies they use to feed their customers. Each room was separate with it's own bathroom, and just before you entered the 100 year old house, which also housed the tables & chairs where the guest ate, was this unbelievable pool. The gals husband had done it all himself for only $1000. You know that we love people that take on projects like this, like Bill building Whody. The pool was 4ft. deep and amazingly beautiful!! There is also a picture showing the work of the rooms, in process, what a kick! So if you are ever in Marathon Texas and need a place to stay, try Eve's Garden, the folks were warm, friendly and I know your stay would be perfect!
As we drove around the town we realized how unusual it was, there were many old empty houses, and several that still had the old water systems, where windmills pumped water into tanks. People actually lived in Tee Pees, and they also built "look-outs" on top of their houses. We could actually see the guy up there with binoculars! Cool!! It was also a place where you could take an old gas station and turn it into a restaurant. And last, even the Aliens lived here, an Amazing place!
Actually," Marathon was established as a military encampment in 1879, and has a rich history of railroads, ranchers, pioneers & prospectors", or so says the brochure, leave it to Bill and I to find the real town as it is today,Wonderfully 'Eclectic' and a fun place with lotz of imagination mixed with the old and falling down stuff!
I have more, but my machine quit putting on pictures, so will stop!!
The amazing pool!, and the more amazing garden!
Can you see the guy in here??
The new restaurant!!
HELP~~ ALIENS HAVE LANDED!!!!!
Well folks, good night for now, although this is short and to the point, and I did have more to show you, no more pictures will go on, so phooey, we are off to Big Bend National Park tomorrow, and will try all this again! Love to all & Prayers, Arlette & Bill too, and the Sassy
