~~~~ HEY! Well, let's just see if we can get pictures on tonight, OK? Be back! Well guess not, but as soon as I'm through telling all I know, I'll try again,"K?" That's Texas talk for OK. We are now in Grapevine, TX, and will be here until we move out on Monday morning. It is so beautiful here, right now I am sitting here with my window open listening to this big old bullfrog just singin' a tune to hes gal!Brrrrreheheh, well, didn't tell you I was good at frog talk now did I? We are sitting on a lake with grass and trees all around us, it is about 10pm or so, 75* with a slight breeze, pure paradise. We just came in from sitting outside on our patio, underneath the awning. Wow!!Remember I told you that we go on these "Adventures" every once in a awhile, well Darlins', we are gittin so's we go on 'um all the time now! Had to call the campground 3 times before we found them. turned right when we shoulda turned left, ended up out in the middle of who knows where, thank the good Lord we found a place to turn this jumbo Jet around, then after trying to convince that honey of mine we were going in the right die~rection, WA-LA there is a sigh that clearly told us BOTH where to go, and although it looked like it was going into a nice neighborhood,and past a cemetery, we did make it! We got signed up, parked, hooked up, air on,left the Sassy, it was abut 90* out, to hot to leave her in the car, and headed for the town of Grapevine to take a look see. Stopped at the Visitors Center for some info. on the train ride, and found they had a free(very good price)museum, so took a look-see. They had the usual stuff, but if I can get pictures on(please,please) I will show you a fire extinguisher that was really cool, and a shovel with 3 handles, used to start the digging of one of the man-made lakes here. They also had a very unique barbers tool, too, all on one post were clippers,massager,and, of all things, a back-scratcher. Bet the 'ol boys were lined up for that, I sorta expected to find a tooth extractor, I understand dentists did that as well, back in the day (Shudder), but thankfully it weren't there! Hope ya'll know I'm steel doin' ma Texas tawk on occasion, I really do spell like a yankee! They also had clothes of the 1800 & 1900 period, and one of them was a skirt made entirely out of mens neckties. It was really quite pretty, but quite worn. So ladies, heads up, I want to see all those pretty skirts on you when I get home, ya'll ken git necktaws rally cheap at the thrift stores, so git crackin' ya hear?? Then we headed on a walking tour of Grapevine, and such interesting history is to be found all over town! Our first stop was at the Calboose, how I would have hated to be in there when it was 100* out, whew, but got so tired of Bill a buggin' me I threw him in there pronto!! (I let him out cause I don't know how to drive Whody yet). We saw the Olympia Confectionery, which I DID NOT ENTER, the City Hall, which is quite striking, The Palace Theater,where it is rumored that Mae West once sang, the J.N.Woods home, built in 1923 and still was lived in around the 1940's, tho for the life of me I can't remember Who the heck they were, Stopped at a beautiful Gazebo to rest in the shade, and Sweet William decided I needed to get a little wet , I fooled him, sat down beside him, put my hand on the spout and got his whole back soaked, the only thing that made me mad was HE was cooler, and I was still HOT!! The next stop was the Foust funeral home, I know, we'll get there soon enough, right?, but it was really intriguing. Did you know they had embalming tools back in the 1900's, neither did I. though I had heard that way back they put a string in the casket attached to a bell above ground, so if they WEREN'T really dead when they buried them,(guess they couldn't always tell, SHUDDER,) the person could pull on the string and it would ring the bell. True or not, It was just what I had heard, I know one thing for sure, if it had been me in there , well, you know the answer!
The more we see of Texas, the more beautiful it is,of course every state we have been in so far had just filled us full of awe, that God has made such beauty and we get to see it, even with the high fuel prices. We take each day as it comes, Diesel is anywhere from $4.55 to $4.75 down here, and we try to fuel up at the less expensive ones. After all, "ya cain't tike it wif ya, naw kin ya?" There is so much more to tell, but would be on here all night so am gonna stop.
It is after 11pm here, so best git my backside into bed, have a big day planned tomorrow, a train ride and lotz of other stuff to talk about! See ya tomorra'. Love & stuff, Arlette & Bill and Sweet Sassy!
