From Pharr,TX, to Palm Springs,California

Howdy ya'll! Bet you thought we was stopped in Texas forever, huh? (Hoppy, don't give up on us, we still have a lot of traveling to do!) Nope, and Whody is sticking out her tongue at Texas, saying, "We is leavin' dis place, Tomarra, PHttttttt.

!! So we picked a goodly share of Carols Oranges, and boy are they good right off the tree, store bought can't even begin to compare.

We said goodbye to our friend Carol Brown,

and headed for Indio, Calif. We decided not to take the freeway, took the back roads instead, and what a treat. Lotz of stuff, like the tractor below, and other things you will see, but let me tell you, Texas is a BIIIGGG state, took us 2 1/2 days to get out of it!

We saw several of these, but this one cracked me up, he was in the middle of this little town, stopped at the stop light no less!

This is a very common sight, corn by the bag, and in some cases they will even roast it for you, am told it isn't sweet corn, it's quite hard and not so good, but orange trees are in abundance, as are lemon trees, and other fruits and are sold by the roadside as well.

This is a little town called Uvalde, Tx., one of the many we passed through, this one struck me for a few reasons, one is below, we saw several vehicles in this state of condition, notice the air conditioning by way of the well placed back window!!

Bet you don't have something this special, now do ya??

As we came into town, the first thing I saw was an American flag, then..............

I looked to my left, and here is a bigger, Mexican flag, and although the American flag was higher, I wondered why.Just as we passed , we saw a sign that said " International Bridge" That was Mexico, the border was just withing walking distance! We have no idea how hard it must be for our Border Patrol to really control this area, a real challenge I am sure!

This was a one way bridge over a river, there was a concrete divider on the right side, and nothing but small metal fence thingies on the left. Bill was more than a little nervous, cause Whodys wide body filled up most of the space with little room to spare, aaaaaaaa, Whody held up her skirt a little and tiptoed tho!

YEEHAW, we are finally out of Texas and in sunny New Mexico, WHEW, thought we would never make it!

First thing we saw......Border Patrol. These stops we have to make get pretty interesting sometimes, most times they just ask if we are US citizens and we go on. However, we have been stopped, asked to open our door and pick up our dog, so that THEIR dog can sniff inside and all around, Sassy does NOT like this big dog stickin' his face in HER house, and it takes all we can do to keep her from telling them so!!

See?? Once you get out of Texas you really go from state to state fast, of course we just went across the bottom of them! Here we are in Sunny Arizona, now we will get warm, finally!!!!!

If you look real close you will see Whody in the back of this truck, I thought it was cool, even if it was a little distorted! She is still purty!!

Here is a beautiful sunset just outside Of Yuma, AZ, Dot, I imagine you have seen a few of these, Huh??

Now we are in California, went flying by the 'Welcome to California' sign, and I says to Bill, isn't that pretty, but did I pick up the camera??? NOoooooooo, duh! Here we are at the Salton Sea, Bill remembers water skiing here as a young man, and the lake was a lot larger. It shinks a little every year! It looked like snow, but we knew it weren't cause we was warm!!!! YAHOO!!

Here is a California sunset, pretty, but hard to compare with the beauty of Arizona!

There's the Whody, all tucked in our spot at Hot Spots RV Resort in Desert Springs, Calif., near Palm Springs. The mineral hot tubs really felt divine, 3 temps, 98*~100*~ 104* wonderful, and it felt really good on sore muscles, better than Ben Gay, and I got rid of old Arthur too!! (Well, for a little while anyway) They had a swimming pool that is 88* all the time, so we took advantage of that as well.

This is our friends the McAleers bus, it is a 4104 GMC, that they have done all Retro, with neon lights and everything, it is so cute! They are still converting, but spend about 4mo. a year in it. They live in Burien, Washington. We met them at the last Busnuts Rally.

There go the McAleers, we are in the Joshua Tree National Park, sneaking in the back way, this is a very narrow canyon we went through, and the roads were all 4 wheel drive only. Fun!

Here are the infamous 'Joshua Trees', I really loved them, but not one of them talked to me like the Cactus did, I even got out and listened! Guess they are a little shy!

This is Cindy, (a city gal) getting ready to go down a really high hill, I'm yellin' YEEHAW, and she is going AAaaaaaa, let me out!

Here Bill and Sassy are trying to calm Cindy down with encouraging remarks such as "you'll be fine," "it'll be fun" etc, etc.

And here they are, WHOO HOO, ride 'em, Cindy, go Bob!!!! Cool, huh? We didn't get to do this, couldn't get our Suzuki up the hill, it was to low, talk about disappointed, but Cindy wanted pictures, so it was just as well. Bill was a little put out and said I'm gona go buy a jeep! I think NOT!!

Got further up the canyon and saw this big hole in the rock. We wondered if it was a rattlesnake den, but Bill, being the chicken, wouldn't even go up and look for me, I wonder why not?? JUST KIDDIN'!!

If you look real close at the top of the rock, you will see a little family of ground squirrels, I almost missed them, they looked just like the sticks, but after we sat a minute we saw them scrambling around!

We came out in the open and saw a sign that said "one way", it made no sense, but Bob refused to go the other way, so here the 2 "smart ones" are, trying to figure out which way to go, only to find out the map they were studying was a hiking trail map. We ended up going on the 'ONE WAY' road backwards, and finally got to where we were headed! GO FIGURE!!

This rock cracked me up, it looks like a big basketball, and although it looks quite small here, it was humongous!

Went into an area where there are some really HUGE rocks, and was told that people come from all over the world to climb these monsters, so we stopped and watched, they made it look really easy, but I decided not to try it, Ya Right!

Sassy liked watching them too, she got right up in the window, and every few minutes she would grrrr at them!

This rock looked like it had had some kind of surgery, see the scar? Saw several this way, didn't know there were rock Drs. Not sure what was removed, couldn't tell by looking!

This was the rock they called "The Skull", pretty eerie! Isn't it amazing the different looks of the rocks, I could have put on a lot more pictures, but time and the computer don't always work together for me! So for this time, thanks for going to Joshua Tree National Park, and for travlin' with us from Texas to California. The next blog will be about our adventure at our first FMCA (Family Motor Coach Association) meeting, a hint, there are a lot of motor homes here, as well as buses, and it is AWESOME!

Keep a stiff upper lip, your earmuffs on (snicker) and your toes warm! Love, Prayers & Hugs to all. Arlette & Bill too, and the Sassy!

OOOOPS, fergot this 'un! Took this on the way home from the Park, just liked the star! Smiles..................................
