MEXICO

Hola, pronounced,"O~Lah"
from Progresso, Mexico! To go in you pay $2.00 if driving, 25cents if walking, but you also pay $2.oo to park before you walk over. And yes Maria, I guess I have been doing stuff that I can blog about, sorry,,by the time we get done in the evening, I AM POOPED!!!!
My first picture is of Angels, the restaurant that our friend Carol frequents when in Progresso. It is certainly an interesting place, as you can see, there is outside looking in folks too, lotz of 'em, but only caught this guy on camera, I was busy visiting and feedin' my face! If you look really close just past the pigeon, there is a dog house, and usually there are 3 or 4 dogs playing on the roof. Now that is a really unique thing, do ya think? Angels is 4 floors up above the town, so you can see LOTZ of stuff! Next is another picture of the inside of Angels, and usually there is a man on the stage playing a guitar and singing all the songs from the 30's and 40's, and on occasion there is a guy who has painted himself all silver, and thinks he looks like Elvis, not with that cowboy hat on he don't, and his belt buckle is flashing different stuff. It is best if you try not to look at him, cause next thing you know he is trying to hug you and thinks, hopefully, we will give him a tip! Not in My lifetime!

This is a picture going Out of Mexico you pay $1.65 to come out, and you wait, and wait, and sometimes, like this particular day, you wait, and wait, and wait, and wait, 4 hrs. to be exact!! Boooring, to say the least, but it isn't like this all the time, when Bill and I go, we usually walk over and the wait is minimal!

Here is a picture of the outside of Angels, as you can see, and will see as you go down, Mexico is such an interesting, to say the least, much more so here than when you go to a big resort like Mazatlan I would guess, the main streets are kept pretty clean, but as you travel out of the "business" district, it is quite different, you will see in some of the following pictures, although none are taken in the waaay outer limits, we didn't go very far, didn't get insurance!
This is our friend Carol Brown, she was my hostess at Angels, and a good one I must say. she always picks up the tab and insists we order whatever strikes our fancy! The next gal is our friend Shelby, she is a school teacher at a Christian school in Donna,Texas, and she helps around the Mission grounds as well.
After that is Donna, her and her husband work full time for Carol on the mission grounds, doing whatever needs doing, she is a busy bee, hardly sits still for long, and Shelby is the same, the heat doesn't bother either one, as both have been Missionary's in Mexico where there is NO air conditioning, GASP, WHEEZE,CHOKE!!!!! I know, I'm a big baby!! (smile) Bill still loves me tho., so there!

This is just one of the things I chose, and you are only seeing 1/2 of it, the other 1/2 is almost gone, it is a shrimp stuffed avocado, an it was amazing, I know Annie, Bill didn't think it looked good either, but it was soooo yummy. With that I had a shrimp cocktail, and will you just look at it, nothing like in the states, you actually get some shrimp, along with avocado chunks and really good cocktail sauce, and it was only $3.95! I also had Coka (coke) and coffee with my flan, what a wonderful thing it is, like a custard with a cherry hidden inside. Even Bill likes it, can you believe?????He didn't go with us this time, it was just us girls that got caught for 4 hours with a lot of crazy people, and no I don't mean the Mexicans, I mean Americans who are use to instant, I'm in a hurry, everything!!

This is a picture taken from the 4th floor of Angels. The orange building you see, was blown up a few years ago, actually the whole block was in a mess. A propane tank had exploded, killing 2 people, and injuring quite a few. As we go down, I will show you the building and block today.

For those who were wondering, yes, they have TV too, but you don't see it as much as you do in the States, had to let you know!

This hotel really caught my eye, of course your view on the veranda was Not an ocean view, just of the side street, but I loved it!

This was taken from Angels, looking towards the red building you can see where you pay your money and go over the international bridge, to the USA,where they check your passports and ask why you were there and what you purchased. This was the line~up when we arrived, and it was worse when we got ready to leave.

This was one of many Bridal shops, Mexican weddings are a Grande thing!

This guy was setting up to sell lunch, you see these little wagons all over the streets.

The bright yellow building and both sides, are where the propane tank exploded, and has now been rebuilt. Notice in all the pictures the Pharmacy, dental, barber and beauty shops, they actually out number the bars, don't think so in the US!!

I think the thing I love the most, is the Colors,If I ever live in a stick house again, it will be painted just as bright and pretty as the buildings in Mexico. Sorry Donna and Sharron, you better hope I don't settle in good old Baker City! (HA,HA) Here you see another TV satellite.

Couldn't resist this and the picture below, I really wondered what "Belly to Belly" meant, then saw this sign that read "Mechanical Bull" Would YOU want to be belly to belly with any kind of bull I ask you????? Me Neither!!

A lot of the signs are remnants of the good old days of the 70's and 80's, notice, "disco bar"?????

Carol parks just outside of this mall, we walk through to her Pharmacy on the right, and Angels on the left about a block. Again just look at the colors, aren't they great? You can see Shelby, and Carols head in the lower right hand corner.

This was one of the times Bill and I drove in, and this is a good picture of the main street in Progresso,Mex.

OK, LOVED THE COLORS!!!

Well, there you go folks, just a sample of what has been going on, Bill and I love Mexico, it is so colorful, and busy, but can be a bit scary as well. The last time we walked over,(just us), on the way out there were 3 or 4 big black policia cars and a black limo, waiting for someone who must have been a big wig, 'cause right behind them was a black Pick~up truck with about 4, very well armed men with black masks on,making sure you were sufficiently scared enough to stay away from the car! We weren't afraid, but were gladly ready to walk back over the bridge into the good old USA, where the Mexicans are NOT friendly. At least not in Pharr!
This has been long I know, but it needed to be done! Glad you guys love us enough to inquire, I sometimes get to dog~gone lazy. Having to much fun is more like it!
Smiles, Love and Prayers to ya'll,I am in Texas ya know! Arlette & Bill too, and the yappy Sassy
