Howdy! Wow, what a day we had. Took the train from Grapevine,TX to Fort Worth,TX Old Stockyards. Wow. They use to run thousands of longhorn and other kinds of cattle through there, and it is a HUGE place. Now of course it is all shops and restaurants, there is a maze, NO, didn't go in, although Bill wanted me to so he could lose me, I can't find my way out of a bucket, even if you threw me in the right direction! Ha. If I can get pictures on you will see why my betterhalf was lookin' fer a place to ditch me!
We left on the afternoon train, expecting to see lotz of neat stuff along the train route, WRONG!!!, Saw a Wal-mart and a Krispey Creme, tried to get the engineer to stop but would he?, Naw, it was still fun. Met a couple of teachers, they thought we were cute "turists", so took our picture,(are they nuts or just blind?) And we met a couple from England who shared with us that we shouldn't whine over gas prices as it is over $11.gal over there, and they had to sell their motorhome. Waaaaaaa, don't even want to think about it!! The trip took about 1-1/2Hrs, and was warm, but we got in an outside, covered car, so wasn't really to bad. Lotz of little munchkins, got pictures of some. When we pulled in at the station, it was so awsome, just like back in the 1900's when the train pulled into the station. Their were people dressed in 'period' dress, lotz 'o cowboys, ladies dressed purty, some nice, some not so nice, even saw an Indian, wanted to get a picture with him, but we were eating at the time, and never saw him again, the blasted redskin!!!! We headed for the stores, and bought a few souvenirs, got T-shirts for the Great Grandkids, they are 2 & 1, I got a new T-shirt and a pair of REALLY COOL earrings, shiny longhorns, and almost bought the most beautimus purse, but it was $40.00 and I could buy a lot of stuff for that price, so passed it up. Sniff! Then went to find something to eat , had the best BBQ sandwich with fries for only $5.50, can you believe that??
OOPS, forgot to tell you that just before pulling into the station we got robbed. The bandit on the horse shooting his gun was a real cutie, told him Bandits didn't smile, and his answer?, "Why not?, we're gona get ourselves rich!" The ones who came inside gave us all fake paper money, and gave all the little ones deputy sheriffs badge stickers. Really cute!
We were coming out of a store and discovered we had just missed the "cattle drive" down the main street, got a picture of their back -sides tho, and like me it 'aint their best feature! Then, just before the train pulled in, there was a skit with a sheriff(looked a lot like John Wayne), a deputy,(acted a lot like Barney), and of course bad guys. Seems the deputy wanted to be sheriff, and got his wish at the point of the sheriffs, double barrel shot gun, and was pretty happy with himself, UNTIL......In walk the bad guys, do,do,do,do, 'course he had on the sheriffs hat, vest, badge, AND the shotgun, so even though he denied being the sheriff, the proof was in the puddin', as they say. They were gona shoot him, but of course the Sheriff ened up shooting the badguys, having told his "deputy" to "back him up", and the sheriff got shot in the hiney!
It was a long day, but really fun too. We got another picture taken by a professional photo person, so will put it on here too. Hopefully we are heading into Dallas to take a few bus tours in the next few days, so stay with us, and I'll try to make it as interestin' as Ah kin!
Love and Smiles to all, Arlette & Bill too, and lonely Sassy (to hot to take her)
PS: The ride home was HOT,HOT,HOT,Sat on an enclosed car, not room in the Open air ones, (Drip,Drip,Drip)
